Gravy's Sebastian Hill-Esbrand Turns Failure into Transformational Growth in "PIVOT"
October 8, 2025“PIVOT isn’t a film that claims to change the world,” says director Sebastian Hill-Esbrand, “it's a short hybrid piece that blends music, memory, and documentary form to capture a feeling. I’ve been fixated with the concept of self actualization, and the ways in which our biggest failures ignite our most transformational growth. “For me, this film is about the texture of those moments when life forces us to shift direction. It’s less about answers and more about presence, letting the audience sit with real people, their stories, and the moods that linger. If it leaves someone with a feeling they can’t quite name, then I feel I’ve done my job. And most importantly, I really like the song.” And so do we at 1.4.
Director Sebastian Hill-Esbrand’s latest short, PIVOT, is about a young musician whose obsessive past led to a destructive spiral and was deported before he could turn things around. Returning home to friends still lost in addiction, he’s now chasing a second chance. Music is Broken Moon by Jones Carwash // Robby Pedersen & Brandon Shock.
