Lost Planet’s Rachel Butler Talks Organized Collaboration, Music Searches, and the Art of the Final Rewrite with PostPerspective
January 13, 2026Rachel Butler is an editor at Lost Planet, a boutique editorial company founded by Hank Corwin, a renowned film editor and ad industry legend. “It’s an incredible place to work, especially from an entry-level point of view, because the people who work at Lost Planet love the editorial process and are so willing to encourage growth and collaboration on all levels,” reports Butler. “As an intern starting out running around New York City, I was surprised by how often I was invited in to watch, weigh in and learn. Our offices in NYC and Los Angeles are filled with the best people.”
Let’s find out more about Butler and her workflow…
From your perspective, what does being an editor entail?
As an editor, you tackle the first steps of the final steps. A lot can happen, and it’s a lot to wrap your mind around. The raw materials come in all forms, ranging from shot footage to archival, along with an abundance of music, sound effects, graphics, stills, animations… the list goes on. The possibilities are endless, and it’s the editor’s job to be cool, calm and collected; to get organized; and to gather together the final rewrite.
However, what happens is unique to the individual, and of course, every project is different, but the idea that “anything is possible” is always present. I like to balance this feeling of extreme open-endedness with a really organized and prepared approach. It’s also great to work with collaborators and, all together, reach a final edit that everyone is happy with.
