Tyrone Rhabb’s body of work reverberates with vitality, timely narratives, and dynamic sound. Tyrone is a New York-based film editor whose work encompasses commercials, branded content, music videos, and documentaries.

His creative imprint can be seen in his collaborations with Samsung, Away, Fitbit, Häagen-Dazs, ESPN, and Nike. Throughout his career, his passion for connecting moments, playing with story arcs, and delivering emotion through editing has burned brightly.

His work for Broadway’s The Lion King has won him the 2023 Clio Entertainment Gold Award, an Addy, and a People’s Voice Webby. Other recent work has taken home awards at the Cannes Lions Festival, Clios, D&AD and Regional Emmys.

Tyrone sat down with LBB to discuss how his work on Fitbit’s ‘Feel Your Power’ campaign changed his career as well as his upcoming projects to keep an eye out for.

The ad/music video from my childhood that stays with me…Truthfully, all things Hype Williams. I can’t explain the chokehold his work had on youth culture in my hometown, Jamaica, Queens, in the 1990s/2000s. Videos like Missy Elliott’s ‘The Rain’, Craig Mack’s ‘Flava In Ya Ear (Remix)’ and Notorious B.I.G.’s ‘Mo Money Mo Problems’ were completely part of the hip-hop cultural fabric of the time. His highly stylised work has since been referenced, parodied, and flat-out copied a hundred times over.

The ad/music video/game/web platform that made me want to get into the industry…I’m not sure I ever looked at advertising as a possible career choice or even thought about who was making ads until I saw the adidas ‘House Party’ campaign. It was one of the first times an ad felt cool to me. It was fashion, celebration, celebrity, and legacy wrapped in a perfect bow. I remember thinking at the time, ‘Woah! Who made that?!’ Years later, I’d come to find out it was edited by my colleague and friend, Gary Knight.

More on Little Black Book!
