77 Ventures Creative Director Doug Hanshaw’s Artistic Inspirations
April 23, 2024“Doug Hanshaw is an award-winning creative director based out of Nashville, TN. He most recently led the creative direction for NASCAR’s 75th Anniversary award-winning campaign. He’s also worked on ESPN, ACC Network, SEC Network, United Airlines, Google, Walmart, and Time Warner Cable, amongst others.
Doug received his Masters in Art Direction from the University of Texas at Austin then headed north to NY with a very heavy, slightly good student portfolio and a roster of friend’s couches to sleep on. Today he proudly owns his own couch. Two, in fact.

Doug> You’re talking to a guy who used to tape infomercials on TV when he was younger. Something about the ridiculous scenarios they would invent, followed by the immediate solutions, just scratched an itch in my brain. Ron Popeil curing baldness with a can of spray on hair will never not amaze me.

Doug> I was obsessed with the band Weezer in high school (don’t get me started on their post-Pinkerton phase, though). Spike Jonze’s video for ‘Buddy Holly’ just blew me away at the time. He turned a song I loved into a video that turned tons of new people onto the band. The same goes for what he did for the Beastie Boys and their song ‘Sabotage.’ Really, anything Spike Jonze did for music videos back in the day, now that I think of it.”
